I’m riding the pumpkin wave. Or maybe I should say that I’m still riding the pumpkin wave. And with no end in sight. Why would I want to break up with this incredible ingredient anyways?
Does anybody else have the problem where you can never choose what beverage you want to have in the morning? I spend the last couple kilometers of my run thinking about and dreaming of the hot steaming drink I get to have when I get home.
In the mornings, I get up, brush my teeth, put on my running clothes, have a glass of water and head out the door running. No coffee or any pre-game deals for me, just straight to the road. As a result, when I’m nearing the end of my run, I start to get excited for my hot drink. But I never know what it should be.
There’s always coffee – and I do love a good, fresh ground, black coffee any day. But then there is matcha. And chaga. I have an extensive selection of delicious teas, and I love golden milk, made with turmeric, a hint of coconut milk, coconut oil and some ginger. This time of year of course, there’s always the pumpkin spice desire, and come Christmas, all I want is gingerbread. And lately, I’ve been enjoying playing around with Activated Charcoal!
So why choose just one? Ok, maybe I can’t choose just one, so I’m combining them together.
I’m combining my own version of the infamous pumpkin spice latte, made with real pumpkin and fresh spices and the delicious turmeric milk that you have seen all over the place in its glorious yellow colour. I’m pretty partial to having turmeric several times a week due to its anti-inflammatory properties, making it a great recovery ingredient for running, and to be honest, I kind of love the flavour.
But I’ll never turn down a chance to have pumpkin. And if we’re being honest, I’ll tell you that I’ve never bought the Starbucks pumpkin spice latte (too sweet for me), but let me create my own and I’m all over it.
Essentially this recipe lets you have a thick, creamy, hot beverage, coffee, pumpkin, and all the health benefits of turmeric all in one. Black pepper helps your body better absorb turmeric, while cinnamon is great for helping you regulate blood sugar and feel satisfied. And we all know that pumpkin is good at filling you up and a great boost of fiber and helping you feel satisfied as well. All this is a nice cup you can hold in your hand and nurse for as long as you like. After all, if you claim it all for yourself, it makes enough for a refill!
Yes I claimed it all for myself.
